This is with reference to the news ‘Our identity linked to Arabic’ (KT/April 24). The announcement made by His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, about nurturing Arabic language is appreciable and encouraging.
The incident of throwing the newborn from the garbage chute in Sharjah is spine-chilling indeed (KT/April 25). It was a sheer miracle that despite being thrown from a great height, the new-born survived, suffering only minor cuts and bruises.
The musical fountain at Dubai Mall is a major attraction for the residents and tourists. People from all walks of life and ages, including infants and kids throng the venue to enjoy the spectacular show. The sea of people especially on weekends and public holidays is to be seen to believed.
This is with reference with your news item ‘Tower burned due to cigarette butt’. It has become a common practice now for people to smoke inside their flats, corridors, exit and entrance of buildings. Non-smokers, especially pregnant ladies and kids, are forced to breath the polluted air. Smokers simply think of their comfort and desires.
